"A Room with a View...or was it?"

Upon our arrival at the venerable Fairmont Empress to cash in on our Hotels.com "Welcome Rewards" free night, we were asked if we'd like to upgrade to the "Fairmont Gold" floor...why not, so we gladly paid the upcharge for our "Gold" room on the 1st floor. Upon sliding the key in the door, however, we opened it to find a well tussled bedspread, etc. So after a quick bathroom break, we headed out for a little shopping on Government Street after informing the same woman at the Front Desk about our predicament...I was assured the room would be cleaned while we were out. Well guess what we stumbled upon once again about 2 hours later...fortunately, the woman in charge of the Fairmont Gold floor was finally informed of our situation and she totally sprang into action...we ended up in a wonderful room (#169) that had a view of the lower floor roof, which was actually more interesting to look at with all the plants, trees and red lava rock than the Harbour View we'd left behind in the room that never got cleaned up! Oh, and of course our saviour waived the Gold Floor upcharge after many apologies (as well as providing free beverages that evening in the Gold Floor Lounge, which also offered up a very nice breakfast the next day)! All's well that ends well...and after all, it being a virtually free room at the Empress, who could complain?!

We took the ferry/bus from Vancouver after a plane ride from Whitehorse. The hotel is only about a $15.00 cab ride from the bus depot downtown. It is located in a nice quiet residential area and there is a lovely trail behind it called the Galloping Goose Trail which was lovely to walk. The staff was extremely helpful, they called the room ten minutes after we checked in to see if everything was alright and when we did have a small problem regarding the toilet they were quick to respond. The room we had is very large and was comfortable, this hotel has smoking rooms so if that is important to you like, the Travelodge is for you! It is also located about a 7 minute drive from the Royal Jubilee Hospital which is where we had to go for an appointment. The Mayfair Shopping Centre is close to the hotel as well.
"You can't beat this location and value!"

We booked a junior suite for 4 nights for family members who were making their first visit to Victoria. The room was spacious and fresh with a full-size fridge in the kitchen area. As they were traveling with a teenager this was a welcome amenity. The inner harbor, museums, Chinatown, and shopping were all within a few blocks walking distance.
