Once the sun goes down over the desert, Palm Springs comes to life, with the majority of nightlife venues being casual and laid back. Expect beer and dancing rather than pretentious celebrity joints, although there are some more upmarket venues for special, sleek occasions.

 

Music venues

 

Palm Springs encourages its local talent, as well as attracting big name bands, and the intimate local venues are host to lots of excellent live music. Whether it's cozy local pubs, or rough and ready dive bars, there's some great music to be found in this town.

 

Village Pub

 

The Village Pub in downtown Palm Springs is a lively venue with different bands every day of the week. There's beer on tap and shots to get you in the mood for dancing, and The Loft upstairs has DJs spinning records until late. There's also a more chilled out area with table football and comfy chairs where you can sit back and enjoy the music.

Dillon Road House

 

For those whose music tastes tend towards metal and rock, the Dillon Road House is a rough and ready venue with a rich history. From blues to classic rock to country, there's an old fashioned saloon style welcome, and the bar serves beer and burgers to keep you going until late.

LGBT friendly

 

Palm Springs has a large LGBT population, and so most bars and clubs are gay friendly. You'll also find a lively selection of gay bars and clubs, catering to a diverse selection of customers who just want to have fun.

 

Hunters

 

With a mostly male crowd, Hunters has plenty of regular events running throughout the year, from football Sundays to karaoke nights, as well as special events during the holidays. From drag shows to bear nights, there's a diverse crowd made up of locals and tourists.

Toucan's Tiki Lounge

 

This is a flamboyantly tiki-themed lodge that attracts a mostly gay crowd, although anyone laid back and friendly is welcomed. Amid the plastic palm trees and exotic masks, you'll find a busy dance floor that's often occupied by big name drag acts, and after a few of the garish cocktails you might just feel like joining them. With a casual dress code and an unpretentious crowd, you're bound to get into the tiki spirit.

Cocktail bars

 

There's a small selection of cocktail bars in Palm Springs, with high end hotels boasting their own stylish nooks. Downtown also has a few venues where you can enjoy a perfectly mixed drink, although they tend to be more casual than their big city counterparts.

Cinemas

 

The Coachella Valley area has a wide selection of cinemas in a fairly small area, with many larger, out of town multiplexes as well as classic movie theaters that have been lovingly restored.
