Taipei City Hotels

The bustling Taipei City is at the center of Taiwanese business and finance, with high rise buildings including one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world towering over the city. The streets are full of colorful shops set over several floors, with bright neon lights and attention grabbing signs. Away from the center you'll find a more peaceful vibe, and there are plenty of parks and quiet, meditative spots.

Things to see

At the tip of the city and looking out over the South China Sea, the Danshui Fisherman's Wharf is a great spot to enjoy a panoramic view of the city. You'll see the modern curves of the bridge from far away, and as you get closer you can spot fishermen coming into the wharf in their boats, and you can enjoy some of the freshest seafood in the cozy restaurants that overlook the harbor. The National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall stands in memory of the former president of the Republic of China, and this traditional pagoda style building has an impressive blue tiled roof and unique architectural features that make for great photos. If you want to see the city from the highest vantage point then take a trip to the gleaming glass skyscraper that is Taipei 101. This building is named for its 101 floors, many of them hosting major banks and large corporations, and there are also observation decks, restaurants, and a mall that are open to visitors. If you want to get away from the bustle of the city, then head for the Wulai Waterfalls which are over 80 meters high, with a steady stream of tumbling water feeding into the rivers below. This area is a calming and peaceful area to explore, with rocky landscapes and dense areas of green forest that offer cool shade.

Hotels in Taipei City

Those visiting on business or leisure will be pleased with the selection of luxury hotels in Taipei City. Many of them are newly built and have a cosmopolitan, contemporary style. You can enjoy features such as health clubs, spas, buffet breakfasts, snack bars, front desks with currency exchanges, tour and ticket assistance, and complimentary newspapers waiting for you in the lobby. There are also plenty of amenities in each room, and if you choose a 4 or 5 star hotel you may find extras such as bathrobes, slippers, jetted bathtubs, rainfall showerheads, complimentary toiletries, cable televisions with HBO, free WiFi, and refrigerators stocked with complimentary bottled water.

Where to stay

Wulai in the south of the city attracts lots of tourists thanks to its traditional Taiwanese architecture and breathtaking waterfalls and rivers. The town is full of small, brightly colored shops, as well as food stalls that have a tempting aroma to draw in visitors. Danshui in the north of Taipei is an older part of the city and is also full of narrow, neon-drenched streets decorated with red lanterns. Here you'll find shops selling collectables and traditional local items, and the area is close to the coast with long, flat sandy beaches. Banqiao is in the heart of the city and is a densely populated, high rise area, with silvery skyscrapers and large apartment blocks. It's a popular destination at night when the food stalls tempt people in, and the night market is a real draw for anyone who wants to sample local cuisine.

How to get to Taipei City

Taipei Songshan Airport has domestic flights across China and Taiwan, and is just a 15 minute cab right to the heart of the city. There's also a large station on the Taipei Metro which is connected to the terminal, and this is on the Neihu Line which covers many popular areas and attractions. Banqiao Station is in the center and is on the metro, as well as being connected to the Taiwan High Speed Rail which offers stops along the west coast of Taiwan.
