Glacier National Park has dramatic mountain landscapes, with rugged grey mountainsides, clear waters, tumbling waterfalls, and mature pine trees. The area has over 700 miles of hiking trails to suit all abilities, and you can take tours to discover the Native American history of the park. The Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort makes the most of the natural beauty of the area, and once the slopes are covered in powdery snow it becomes a popular spot for skiers and snowboarders, with slopes for beginners as well as more experienced snow lovers. If you want a great view of the area, hike up Sixmile Peak taking you to an elevation of 3,400 feet. From here you can enjoy horse riding, mountain biking, and even motorbike trail riding which gives you a unique perspective on the area. Conrad Mansion was the home of the founder of nearby Kalispell, and this unique Victorian mansion is displayed exactly how it would have been when he lived there, with perfectly restored furniture and artifacts from the era. The Bigfork Summer Playhouse is a small, charming theater which has a full calendar of events from musicals to children’s shows, as well as lively revues and shows by local amateur theater groups.

How to get to Whitefish

Whitefish Station is a popular spot on the Amtrak Empire Builder line which runs between Seattle and Portland all the way to Chicago. The station has a car rental desk so you can pick up a vehicle straight off the train, or you can book a taxi and have it waiting for your arrival. A stop down the line you’ll also find the smaller West Glacier Station which has a convenient location close to national parks and popular lake resorts. Glacier Park International Airport is just a 15 minute drive from Whitefish, with regular arrivals from across the USA.
