Cannon Beach Hotels

As the sun sinks on a beautiful Oregon evening, the silhouette of Haystack Rock dominates the horizon, protecting the coast from the wilds of the ocean beyond. Layer upon layer of mountains disappear into shrouds of mist. Cannon Beach is one of Oregon’s most magnificent outdoor destinations, with 9 miles of unspoiled beach and 1000s of forest and mountain trails just waiting to be explored. The city itself is just as atmospheric, with independent shops, art galleries, and interesting museums.

Things to see

The Cannon Beach itself is the main attraction of this seaside town; stroll along the soft, golden sand as the sea washes over your toes. From a distance, Haystack Rock simply looks like a hulking monolith, but paddle out to it and you’ll find an entire marine ecosystem, teeming with life. Seabirds nest in the rock, creating a constant fluttering and squawking. Little ones will love the rock pools, where they can spot starfish. For more wildlife-spotting, head out into the open ocean on a whale-watching boat tour. Further up the coast, the Ecola State Park provides plenty of opportunity for hiking and horse-riding in ancient forests, where huge trees are laden with vines. Return to civilization in the city center, where you can explore art galleries. There are also interesting shops and excellent dining options. Understand the area’s heritage at the centrally located Cannon Beach History Center and Museum.

In most of the mid-range hotels, the rooms are full of character and charm. These hotels additionally provide pleasant outdoor areas, complimentary WiFi, and parking. Budget hotels are also available, providing comfort and convenience, but may lack some of the quaint character.

Where to stay

Hotels line one of Cannon Beach’s main streets, running parallel to the beach. There is a good choice of mid-range and budget hotels here, steps away from both the attractions of the city, such as the galleries and restaurants, and the beach.
