Kelowna Hotels

The biggest city on the vast, crystal blue Okanagan Lake, Kelowna’s long hot summer days are best enjoyed on one of the area’s sandy beaches, perhaps under the shade of one of the tall trees. In the distance you can enjoy the view of the mountains, often full of bikers and other adventurers. For some less challenging exercise, stroll around one of the dozens of vineyards in the area, where the sun warmed grapes are turned into wines that range from light to full-bodied.

Things to see

Visitors arriving via the Okanagan Lake Bridge will get one of the best views of the vast landscape, and you’ll soon see why so many outdoorsy types flock to the area. Luckily there are plenty of activities that allow you to enjoy the fresh air. The City Park is a sprawling development with a waterpark, concrete skating ramps, and an impressive beach with clear, shallow water for the kids to paddle in. If you prefer a little more action, a visit to the Rotary Beach Park will allow you to zip through the water on a kite board, or enjoy the views from the comfort of a sailboat, before drying off and enjoying one of the fine local restaurants. Knox Mountain Park offers a more rugged experience, with trails that can be strolled along or enjoyed by mountain bike. Enjoy a picnic at the summit while you take in the views, or fish for salmon in the calm lake waters. You may even spot one of the grizzly bears that the town is named for. In the evenings, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing grown men battle it out in Canada’s favorite pastime of ice hockey. Prospera Place hosts the home games for local team the Kelowna Rockets, and also manages to pack in plenty of great gigs and shows.

Hotels in Kelowna

Kelowna has many top-class lakeside resorts that offer spectacular views and luxurious facilities including tennis courts, private beaches, hot tubs, and outdoor pools. A little closer to the heart of the city you’re more likely to find cozy, family friendly inns with cable television, hairdryers, and refrigerators. Those on a budget still have plenty of choice of cheap Kelowna hotels from the big name brands, many with comfortable beds and complimentary breakfasts, as well as handy extras such as laundry rooms and barbeque facilities.

Where to stay

The city of Kelowna has a thriving business district, with high rise buildings sharing space with the vast mountainous landscape. Whether you enjoy the sprawling shopping centers, spas, or theaters, nature is never far away with parks nestled between all the major attractions. During the popular ski season, generally between November and April, the Big White area offers perfectly powdered white snow and twist and turns to challenge all abilities. Grab one of the many lifts and enjoy the thrilling slopes before enjoying some après ski in the cozy restaurants dotted around this resort and then heading back to your Kelowna hotel.

How to get to Kelowna

Visitors usually arrive via Kelowna, BC (YLW-Kelowna Intl.) airport; a sleek, modern building connecting Kelowna with major cities such as Los Angeles, Seattle, and Vancouver. The airport is less than 10 miles from the city center, so you can either hop on a local bus or book a convenient airport shuttle. Some of the major Kelowna hotels also offer their own shuttle services. Kelowna is conveniently located on the Canadian highway system, and it’s a pleasant seven hour drive from Calgary along tree-lined roads.
