But Prince George is a fantastic destination in its own right, well worth taking time out of your schedule to explore. Its bustling downtown has emerged in recent years as an appealing specialty shopping district, while its galleries and museums showcase the best of the city's thriving arts and cultural scene. You'll also find lush forests, thundering waterfalls, and crystal-clear lakes within easy reach, plus world class skiing and snow sports throughout the winter.

The Prince George campus of the University of Northern British Columbia sits high on Cranbrook Hill, offering spectacular views of the town and Fraser River below. Behind the campus you'll find Forests for the World, a lush park area with extensive hiking, cycling and cross country skiing trails. Before you arrive in town, be sure to check out what's on at the CN Centre. This huge indoor arena is home to the Prince George Cougars ice hockey team, and also plays host to some of the biggest names in music and performing arts. The Prince George Playhouse is a community theater offering first-rate entertainment on a more intimate scale. Two Rivers Art Gallery is another must-see cultural attraction. Here you'll find a diverse collection of work by visual artists from all over the region, housed in an eye-catching, purpose-built contemporary building. If you're travelling with kids, be sure to make time for a photo with the town mascot, Mr. PG. This towering statue of a friendly wooden man has welcomed visitors into the city since 1960
