The Quesnel & District Museum and Archives is a charming small museum, with exhibits about the history of the city, including its days as part of the Cariboo Gold Rush. There are displays that recreate Quesnel's past as a humble village, from the general store to a barber shop, as well as vintage tools and equipment from various eras when the area was home to miners and farmers. There's also a celebration of the city's diversity, with exhibits about the indigenous Dakelh people, showcasing their artworks and showing how they lived. Quesnel Lake offers a tranquil and unspoiled area to explore, and is said to be one of the deepest lakes in Canada. How to get to Quesnel

The tiny Quesnel Airport has a regular service to Vancouver on small planes, with the journey taking just under 90 minutes. It's just a 10 minute drive downtown, with taxis bookable in advance to pick you up. The drive from Vancouver takes about 7 hours, and therefore it's often worth taking a plane if you're in a hurry. Quesnel railway station is also a convenient arrival point, and is on the Rocky Mountaineer line, with services to North Vancouver in one direction, and Jasper in the other. However, these are journeys for those at a relaxed, vacation pace, and can usually mean a couple of days staying in a sleeper car.
