The British Columbia town of Fernie is known, first and foremost, as a fantastic ski and snow sports destination. From December through to April, visitors flock to Fernie Alpine Resort to enjoy over 2,500 acres of skiable terrain, with slopes suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to the most fearless of experts. But the region is also a delight in the summer months, when you can enjoy breathtaking mountain hikes, top class fly fishing, thrilling white water rafting, and all manner of other outdoor pursuits.

Things to see

Fernie Alpine Resort offers an incredible variety of outdoor experiences throughout the year. Aside from the obvious skiing and snowboarding, you can also enjoy activities such as snowmobiling and dogsledding during the winter months. In the summer, the resort becomes a haven for hiking, mountain biking, and spectacular scenic chairlift rides. Fernie's historic downtown area is packed with handsome early 20th century buildings, including the stunning chateau style Court House, and the beautiful Holy Family Catholic Church. Perhaps the most unique and impressive structure, though, is The Arts Station, a fantastic multi-disciplinary arts center housed in a former railway station. The center runs a diverse program of concerts, workshops, theater performances and film events, and exhibits work by emerging and established artists in its 2 galleries. To learn more about Fernie's fascinating history, head to the Fernie Museum, which brings to life to story of the area's transformation from pristine wilderness to thriving resort town.
