Underneath its shimmering atrium you'll find a lively and buzzing casino floor, as well as shops, restaurants, and world class entertainment acts. If you're in the city on business, you may find yourself visiting the ultra-modern, glass-fronted Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre which has thousands of square feet of conference space. From expos to conventions, there's always a full calender of corporate and public events for you to enjoy in this bright and unique space. Etihad Stadium is a looming presence in the Docklands area, and this giant circular venue hosts Australian rules football matches, rugby, and special concerts from the biggest acts in the world. Collins Street is considered to be Melbourne's main street and is lined with grand Victorian buildings housing luxurious hotels and boutique stores. It's also a major business center, with many banks and financial institutions hosted in the decadent buildings around the area.

Where to stay

Melbourne's Central Business District (CBD) is the heart of Melbourne, with towering, glimmering skyscrapers, and busy streets packed with high-end stores, restaurants, and stylish cafés. It's also a major spot for nightlife, and when the sun goes down the cosmopolitan bars open and there's a party atmosphere. St Kilda is popular with sun seekers thanks to its long sandy beaches, and it has a more bohemian and laid back vibe. You can simply take the tram into the center to enjoy some sightseeing, or enjoy the colorful, palm tree-lined streets full of vintage stores. Carlton is a recently gentrified suburb to the north of the CBD, with stylish apartments and old big stone buildings that have been turned into cozy restaurants. It's also where you'll find the Little Italy area, with some of the best pasta and authentic Italian foods in Australia.

How to get to Melbourne

Melbourne Airport is in the northwest of the city, and is about a 20 minute drive from the CBD. From here you can pick up a rental car, or book a shuttle or taxi to take you to your hotel. There's also an express bus that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week between Southern Cross Station and the main terminals. Melbourne has excellent public transport links, and from Southern Cross you can take services to Sydney and other major cities, as well as traveling on various underground stations around the city.
