Located on Mexico’s Bay of Banderas, which spills out into the Pacific Ocean, Nuevo Vallarta is a carefully designed idyll. A swathe of gleaming resort buildings and air-conditioned shopping centers curves around the coastline, complemented by pristine leisure facilities. It’s a place where you can fill your days with pleasurable pursuits in a perfect climate – whether you want to play a few rounds on the golf course, sunbathe on a tranquil beach, or hit the water park with the kids.

Things to see

For an active vacation in this lush stretch of Mexico, the first port of call is Vallarta Adventures. Right in the center of Nuevo Vallarta, it’s the starting point for all kinds of tours and activities for the whole family. You could choose to go on a surfing safari around the bay, or set your heart racing on a fast and furious zip-wire swing through the forest canopy. How about swimming with dolphins? Take the family to the Aquaventuras Park and enjoy a splash around with these beautiful creatures. The park also boasts a collection of twisting water slides and a mini water world for toddlers. Then it’s time to hit the beach. There’s plenty to choose from along the coast, but if you want peace and quiet, head to Playa Bucerias. It’s delightfully uncrowded, the sand’s gorgeously soft, and there’s a beachfront market where you can browse for souvenirs.
