Saskatoon Hotels

By cosmopolitan standards, Saskatoon is a pretty small city, with a population of little over 250,000, but that doesn't mean it can't punch above its weight when it comes to art and nightlife. Nicknamed Paris of the Prairies thanks to its bridges, the Art Nouveau buildings which characterise its streets, and the lengths it's gone to to ensure it's a thriving hub of culture, this oasis in the middle of the wheat fields of Saskatchewan is a place to discover museums, cruises, and more.

Things to see

At the heart of cultural life in Saskatoon is the Credit Union Centre which, since it was built in 1988, has played host to untold sports, music and other entertainment. Home to the city's beloved ice hockey team the Saskatoon Blades, the Centre has also seen world-renowned music acts and plenty of events and exhibitions bring thousands of eager punters through its doors. In the heart of Downtown, Midtown Plaza is the shopping capital of the city, with well over 100 retailers offering everything from high-end fashion to home accessories, technology, and beauty, as well as plenty of restaurants to unwind in afterwards and the offices of the CN Tower making it a distinctive part of the city's skyline. One of the most famous of Saskatoon's many bridges, University Bridge is not only a vital link to the town's center of learning, but also, at 335 metres, one of the longest arch bridges in Canada.

Hotels in Saskatoon

There are plenty of hotels to choose from in Saskatoon, but they tend to be in the more mid-range and chain end than luxury palaces catering to those in search of decadence and pampering. Hotels in Saskatoon tend to offer complimentary WiFi, flat-screen televisions, and tea and coffee making facilities as standard, while some will also offer on-site swimming pools and fitness facilities. For budget accommodation in Saskatoon, you may have to head slightly further out of the center of town, and settle for a lodge or motel, or at least a smaller room in a chain hotel.

Where to stay

This not being a huge, sprawling metropolis you'll probably want to opt to stay as close to Saskatoon city center as possible, and doing so you'll soon discover that you're in the heart of a thriving cultural scene. As well as being able to visit some of the city's many museums, such as the Museum of Natural Sciences with its 20 foot high T-Rex skeleton or the Ukrainian Museum of Canada which celebrates the folk art and crafts of Ukrainian migrants you'll be close to the restaurants, cinemas and shops which make this Prairie Paris a small but perfectly formed entertainment hub.

How to get to Saskatoon

John G Diefenbaker International Airport is Saskatoon's main hub for international visitors, and is located around 5 kilometres to the northeast of the city center. Some hotels will offer complimentary shuttle services from the airport, but there is also a regular, fast and inexpensive bus route connecting the airport to the city. The airport is also well connected to the rest of Canada, if you're planning on exploring more of the country.
