Markham Introduction

A hop, skip, and a train ride from the buzz of Toronto, the city of Markham is a well-balanced blend of rich heritage and diverse modern living. It’s known as Canada’s high-tech capital, and cutting edge companies exist alongside the time warp acres of Markham’s preserved past. Leisure comes as a leafy stroll or a round of golf, while shopping and dining choices pack the city’s nostalgic streets. With everything a city breaker needs, it makes a cheap and convenient base for exploring the Queen City, too.

Hotels in Markham

Whatever your taste, needs and budget, you’ll find plenty of hotels in Markham that tick all the boxes. Much of the accommodation here comes in the form of large brand name hotels; all offer a familiar standard of comfort and service. Amenities include the usual necessities, such as coffee making facilities, WiFi and flat screen televisions, while many inns and B&Bs in the area also provide the same. The slightly more luxurious hotels in Markham offer a whole host of frilly extras for your money. Swimming pools, spas, treatment centers, fitness facilities, and sumptuous rooms are all to be expected.

Where to stay

A hotel in Markham center is considerably cheaper than Toronto, but only a few minutes away via car or railway. What’s more, while set back from the buzz of the big city, you’ll still find plenty to get your teeth into. If you like to get your teeth into good Chinese grub, then you’re in luck – thanks to the city’s high Chinese population you’ll find a cornucopia of authentic eateries to choose from. Culture runs strong here too. Drama, concerts, and comedy take to the stage at the Markham Theatre for Performing Arts, while the Varley Art Gallery is home to trove of works by Canadian artists.
