If you prefer your retail therapy mall-style, then dive credit card first into the St. Vital Centre. Here you’ll find over 160 stylish stores to get stuck into. Assiniboine Park is a 1100-acre oasis of sprawling greenery, recreational areas, and fragrant floral gardens. You’ll also find the city’s zoo here, home to a menagerie of creatures including snow leopards and Arabian camels. The MTS Centre is the city’s primary sports and entertainment mecca. Home to the Winnipeg Jets ice hockey team, the 15,000-seater arena is the place to see them carve up the ice.

How to get to Winnipeg

Winnipeg International Airport is the city’s main gateway, serving destinations throughout America and Canada. Those coming from further afield however may have to make connections via larger airports, such as Saint Paul International in Minneapolis. Door-to-door shuttle services from the airport are plentiful, and come cheaper when pre-arranged. In vibrant Downtown, Winnipeg’s Union Station will be the first port of call for those travelling by train. Designed in the ornate Beaux-Arts style by the same architects behind Grand Central Station in NYC, it’s worth visiting for that alone. A well connected travel hub, the Toronto-Vancouver Canadian train also stops here.
