Fort St. John Hotels

Get back to basics with a visit to Fort St. John - a no nonsense, remote city in British Columbia that’s built on gas, oil, and fishing. Don’t think this place is cold at heart, though - Fort St. John enjoys British Columbia’s sunniest weather, so get outside and feel the twigs snapping under your feet, as you try hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing. With a considerably younger population than British Columbia’s average, and industries designed to get things moving, you can’t help but get a boost from ‘The Energetic City’.

Things to see

Canada’s wonderful wildlife blossoms in nearby Charlie Lake Provincial Park, where you’ll hear the cautious hoofs of mule deer, and the melodic calls of white-throated sparrows, while exploring seemingly endless trails. Or, give your arms a work out, by paddling to the center of Charlie Lake in a kayak. Dock, and explore the city’s past at Fort St. John North Peace Museum - which tells tales of the area’s rapid growth, following the discovery of a rich bounty of gas and oil in 1952. You’ll also get to meet local personalities like Anne Young, who was North Peace’s first registered nurse, who spent her life plodding across the freezing landscape on horseback, on an inspirational mission to safely deliver babies right across British Columbia. Don’t worry if the weather’s a little chilly - a few laps of North Peace Leisure Pool will quickly warm you up - or you could, of course, retire to the spa’s hot tub – so you can close your eyes and let the bubbles dissolve any stresses.
