Surrounded by national parkland, and perched on secluded white sandy beaches; Quepos is a popular destination for those who want to explore unspoiled areas. The lively and colorful town has plenty to see, with regular markets, a wide choice of restaurants, and a bustling nightlife, with clubs and bars open until the small hours. One of the most popular pastimes in Quepos is fishing, whether you stand on the shore and try to catch a passing snapper, or take a boat out into the clear ocean full of huge fish.

Things to see

The centerpiece of the Los Campesinos Reserve is the dramatic waterfall, which can be viewed from the canopy bridge, or enjoyed close up by taking a dip in the cool swimming hole. This unspoiled area of rainforest is carefully preserved, with tour guides taking you on the gentle uphill hike, pointing out the rare species of animals, birds, and plants which nestle between the tall trees. Another great spot to get close to nature is the Playa Matapalo, an area with white sandy beaches, clear blue seas, and lush green trees that give this beach a secluded, untouched feel. It's popular with surfers, and the abundance of sea life makes it ideal for fishing, with snappers and snooks swimming close to the shore. For a unique souvenir of the area, a trip to El O'scars Galleria allows you to pick up a colorful painting in traditional styles, with works by emerging local artists and craftspeople.
