Sant Cruz Hotels

Set on the undeveloped and unspoiled Nicoya Peninsula; Santa Cruz is a traditional Costa Rican town surrounded by farmland and ranches. Just a short drive from white sandy beaches and clear turquoise seas, the town avoids a lot of the tourist crowds, so you can get up close to friendly turtles and other rare sea creatures on the quiet beaches. The town is also home to many festivals and fiestas, which give the locals a chance to dress up, dance in the streets, and serve local cuisine from food carts.

Things to see

The Black Stallion Hills Eco Park is a fun and ecofriendly way to enjoy the natural beauty of Costa Rica. This ranch has a range of activities that have been designed leave nature untouched, yet let you explore and have fun. Booking a day or half day at the ranch allows you to take a horseback ride up in the hills, enjoy the views from a thrilling zipline, and enjoy a BBQ at sunset on the terrace. If you enjoy spotting rare species, then the peaceful Ostional National Wildlife Refuge is a great place for hiking or snorkeling, and you'll see turtles nesting on the sandy beaches, with their hatchlings finding their way into the sea. The refuge can only be accessed down bumpy roads on a 4X4, which means it's truly off the beaten track, and during the busy hatching season of August to October there are tours available to see the turtles. In the center of town, the Parque Bernabela Ramos provides a place for locals and tourists to hang out, with a large stone dome shaped structure providing shade from the sunshine, as well as an interesting focal point. The park often has live music performed by local bands, and you'll find stalls selling cold drinks and ice cream to cool you down.
