Well designed and new hostel. Good kitchen and a small bar. It is a ways from anything, so there is no option to go out to a restaurant and there is no taxi service in the area.

The hostel itself is lovely, though we did stumble upon an unfortunate experience. The hotel staff is very accommodating and pleasant, the locations is pretty easy to find and the rooms are lovely. Although, with all of the towns outside of Reykjavík being pretty remote and isolated - the night after a wind storm we found ourselves without electricity or water. Obviously this outage was present amongst the whole town, and the hotel tried their best to be accommodating - but it’s just something to keep in mind I guess when traveling to small towns in Iceland. Check the weather and bring extra water!

Would stay there again!
The Barn is right outside of Vík, the coastal village that is the biggest town south of Reykjavík. The other hotels in Vík looked nice but the Barn was so much bigger, so modern, and it was nice to have a community feel. We got a private room upstairs and honestly it was great. No TV, but we could hear the howling wind all night and it was really soothing! We got beers at the downstairs bar our second night staying there which was fun too. The whole place is sparkling clean and the private rooms are a good size. You share a common three bathrooms that are private which wasn't a big deal to us. There is a communal kitchen separated from the private rooms. We never used it but people were in there each night making dinner and it was nice that it was available as there aren't many restaurants in the area. All dorm rooms are downstairs and private rooms upstairs so it was nice to have some space apart if you wanted to be more private. It was affordable and we're super glad to have stayed there! Plus we checked off "HOSTEL" off our list!

Very chilled atmoshpere and very helpfull staff. Nice room, kitchen well equipped and nice chilling area. Nice location for cheching all the south coast main attractions.
