    Family Fun Visit - July 2021

    Great stay in N. Charleston. Very friendly and helpful staff. Property is older but well maintained. Food and drink options are limited due to Covid protocols being followed.

    The hotel is beautiful and clean. The only thing I did not like is the rooms are cleaned every 3 days, which means you don't get fresh towels daily unless you request them.

    A lot of great...but some so so...

    Check-in was great! The front desk attendant was very nice and friendly. We had an issue with our door and the Maintenance staff were both helpful and friendly and fixed it quickly. The bartenders on Saturday night were friendly, funny and made great drinks! However, the housekeeping situation was not good. COVID has left HK poorly staffed & scared of catching the virus. But, you can't cut out all upkeep services but keep the room prices the same. Twice I called in late morning asking for HK to change out the dirty towels, washcloths & hand towels & empty the trash sometime during that day. No one answered in HK so calls always went to front desk. HK staff on the floor just wanted to hand me 4 towels (no change out, no trash, no washcloths, no face towels) and leave, but I re-stated what I'd asked for on the call. The second time, I called, again in the morning, again on our way out, and they forgot. I called again later and someone came and laid some towels and washcloths on one of the beds. So, I put the dirty towels and the trash in the hallway. Both times, there were HK staff cleaning rooms on the floors when we went out, no reason they could not have popped in, emptied the trash, taken the dirty towels and replaced them. I wasn't asking them to make the beds, vacuum, etc. This is the sort of little luxury you stay at hotels for. I know Marriott can do this because I was in Myrtle Beach in May at the large Marriott there and they did it perfectly!

    Areas of Opportunity

    I was skeptical when I saw the outside of the hotel. It’s not that appealing from the outside. Once you get in the lobby it looks better. Unfortunately the pillowcases for the pillows in our room had large black stains on them. So we slept without pillows. Having one bartender that was also the server on a Saturday night wasn’t the best idea. He was definitely overwhelmed and was being snappy with everyone. It’s unfortunate because there was people standing around the front desk just talking. If your people aren’t cross trained to work other areas you might want to think about it. At checkout I asked the lady at the front desk for a receipt to make sure that only things that we ordered were charged to our room because the bartender was confusing people and what they looked like and the rooms they stayed in. However I was told that I couldn’t get a receipt because I booked through hotels.com so only you guys can send me a detailed report. So I guess I will be waiting on that.
