Lovely hotel, but not in the heat!
I stayed here during the recent heat wave in London. The hotel itself was lovely: room was small but quite functional for two people; location was wonderful and central for both walking and tube, and there were lots of coffee shops nearby. However, there was no air conditioning, so I really could not recommend this hotel if it will be hot during your stay. The hotel provided a standing fan, but the windows only opened a few inches due to safety policy so there was no way to cool down the room and it stayed extremely hot, stuffy and uncomfortable for our whole stay. The recent heat wave has been extremely unusual (it was 35 degrees each day we were there) so it’s no surprise that hotels don’t have AC, but if I had known that the weather would be that hot then this would have been a priority when booking. Would stay again, just not in the heat!

Good location
Very convenient location , close to university and tube. Room was too small, bathroom floor and tiles could have been cleaner. Nice staff.

Three Choices?
In an earlier questionnaire I had provided some info with regard to the difficulties I faced at check in. The receptionist first tried to assign me the worst of the three rooms available (Room 119). I felt fortunate that I had asked to see the alternatives. The room I finally settled in (Room 214) was less cramped. House keeping service was satisfactory. Pillows were a bit too hard. If the rooms are so varied in layout, I would think it fairer to guests if the hotel would have more tiers of pricing.

Some Good, Some Not So Good
The Thistle was in a great location, very short walk to Tube. Rooms pretty small but clean. Only two electrical outlets available (none by beds) for charging phones, etc. We had a twin room and one of the mattresses was not as comfortable as the other. Wifi would only allow one device to connect at a time. Major complaint: hotel under renovation and elevator was not available. Staff did handle our luggage but since the availability of an elevator was one main reason we chose this hotel, climbing several flights of stairs to get to room was not what we paid for. Staff did not offer to move us to a room with elevator access.

Short stay OK
Good placed hotel, all staff very helpful. Room a bit small but ok for time there. Bathroom could have been better, back of door had stains on it and around bath area looks like 5 year old did the silicon. Window rattled badly so used loo roll to stop it. Little things easily fixed but good hotel
