Profile: Downtown Memphis

Profile: Downtown Memphis

Downtown Memphis is the city’s commercial and cultural heart, set around an urban landscape of modern, multi-story towers and historic brick buildings. Much of its energy emanates from Beale Street – a neon-drenched stretch of bars, clubs, and live music venues. It’s here you’ll find the legendary Sun Studio, where Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash recorded some of their biggest hits.

Nearby you’ll find the Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, which details the city’s musical heritage, as well as the National Civil Rights Museum, the Orpheum Theatre, and AutoZone Park – a mecca for baseball fans.

Awesome hotel! The staff are EXCELLENT - especially the front desk staff. They are so helpful, kind, and accommodating and go out of their way for you to enjoy your stay. One thing I wanted to comment on is one of their night security guards, John, who displayed such an appalling lack of professionalism and was so rude and disrespectful to one of the women working at the check in counter when she asked him to get a package for me. I can't believe ANYONE in the service industry would be allowed to speak or act so unprofessionally, but I was also completely aghast at how we was speaking to his colleague - his tone, his language, his eye rolling and facial expressions. If I was a manager at this hotel and heard him speaking to one of my employees this way, I'd fire him on the spot. Lord knows how he speaks to guests staying at the hotel. He was also sitting on a stool at the bar when she asked him to get my package, and didn't appear to be doing anything at all. I'm not sure if he understands what W-O-R-K is? Please get rid of this clown. He detracts from the exceptional employees you have working the valet, the front desk, and the other staff. The location is also great - right across from the Peabody. I would like to come back to Memphis and think this is a wonderful spot. The rooms were nice and clean too.

    First stay in Memphis!

We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn downtown Memphis. Everything was within walking distance but we also walked up to Main Street and caught a couple of different trolleys to see the Riverfront, the Pyramid and other areas. The staff was all very friendly, professional and helpful. Thanks for a good stay on our first visit to Memphis!

The good weight out the inconvenient.

The location of this hotel was excellent. We were right across from the Peabody Hotel which was one of our destinations. The staff was wonderful and helpful especially their shuttle driver Manual. The room was nice and clean. Our only complaint was it did not the three things we like when staying somewhere for vacation.....a fridge a microwave or a vault. It's nice to lock your passports and valuables up when leavin the room. I like to have milk or cream with my coffee in the morning so the fridge comes in handy. Having said all his we would stay here again.

All the staff were so friendly, very helpful. We stayed a week and room got cleaned once but if we needed more towels or anything we got them right away. Everyone was in a great mood and always asked if we needed anything. The location could not of been any better it was perfect. If we got lost we called the hotel and they directed us back with no problems. Breakfast was awesome.

Room was very nice, beds were comfortable. Staff was very friendly. There was a pool we didn't end up using. We were a little disappointed that there was a spot for a fridge, but no fridge in the room. Also wifi was down for most of our stay. We parked in the parking garage right next door, very cheap - almost 24 hours for $10. So we were very happy we skipped the valet. Location was very nice, super close to restaurants and Beale street. Was a bit pricy so we opted for the 2 double beds because it was a fair amount cheaper than the king bed. All n all decent stay downtown Memphis.

Front desk staff, room and amenities were great. Only HUGE downside was the housekeeping lady. When checking in, I requested a late checkout. I had to yell at this housekeeping lady through the door, three different separate times, to come back after we check out. Probably the most annoying and persistent housekeeper in Memphis (or all of America), could not sleep! Front desk gave me free parking due this experience, couldn't say they did not try to keep me happy!

    Not-so-good Stay

Walking distance to Beale St was the only good thing about our stay. Hotel is old and badly needs updating. Water pressure in the shower was horrible. All tv channels did not work. Parking was expensive. Probably will not use this property again.

4PM check-in? Are you sure about that?

We waited almost 2 hours to get checked in. When you say 4PM check-in and people make other arrangements and reservations around that check in time it ruins the effort given towards planned trip. First room we were checked into literally had a toilet in the bedroom space and lighting on the beds. Finally got checked into a second room and the room was what you would expect; except maybe having toilet paper in the rest room would have been nice. Either way we missed our dinner reservations and the stores we had planned on going to had closed. So I’m not very impressed.
