Incredible spot, good accommodation & fab food.

From arrival, we were made to feel so welcome and at home. Rooms were nice and clean, with some nice extra touches included. At and drank at the pub, where the food was sensational and the prices were fair. Would definitely stay there again, as we would love to make use of the beautiful garden when the sun is out. Definitely recommend.

    relaxing and friendly

no issues apart from rather slow start to dinner one night. Overall impression favourable. Menu a bit scarce and did not vary over my visit 3 days. Everything well cooked. Attentive staff. Bedroom comfortable with all amenities including welcome bath. Some rooms overlook main road that not busy though regular heavy traffic. During summer months lovely outdoor area for meals and drinks overlooking river and historical bridge. Sheep in field on opposite bank and majestic trees.

Great location, amazing food, very friendly staff.

Booked one night on the way home and will definitely be returning. Great location right beside the River Teme, very friendly staff, clean and spacious room (No. 8, twin single). Ate in the bar and the food was really nice and plentiful. The breakfast was something else! Amazing. Careful if asking for the Full English as it is definitely filling. Great value and you also get Muesli, fruit, yoghurt and toast if you want it.

Pub with rooms in a lovely location

We stayed at the Lion for an anniversary meal and night away. The pub is in a lovely location - the garden runs down to the river and the old stone bridge makes it a very picturesque setting. All the staff were wearing masks, which was great to see, and the dining room had 'socially distanced' tables for dinner and breakfast. The room was cosy with 'shabby chic' wooden furniture. The bathroom was a good size and obviously recently refurbished. My only major criticism was the bed - I think another reviewer has also commented on this! As soon as you moved a muscle the bed creaked loudly and the mattress was very soft so felt more like sleeping in a hammock. I would think this could be easily rectified by putting a board under the mattress. There were nice touches, like a welcome gift of two bottles of lemonade and crisps from a local farm shop, but then other small details had been missed (only half a toilet roll with no spares and the mugs for tea and coffee looked like they hadn't been washed up). We had dinner in the restaurant, which was lovely. The service and the food were both excellent. Breakfast similarly was excellent - a good choice on the menu - and was only slightly marred by the waitress forgetting part of our order (juice and toast were requested but never materialised). Overall, we enjoyed our stay and I would return - attention to the minor details would have made it excellent rather than very good.
