Great hotel but standard rooms a dissappointment
We booked a standard double room for the weekend. The room was clean and of a good size, but the heating was not working, and neither was the air extraction from the windowless bathroom. The toilet was rammed into the side of the bath/shower and so quite difficult to access. The hotel staff were lovely and accommodating. The breakfast is ample, with a selection of continental and English breakfast. It's very standard and no extras such as al a carte kippers or pancakes. The coffee was truly dreadful! The restaurant did a very good evening meal, with attentive service and average to good food. Very handy when Blackpool is so busy and restaurants are rammed. Slightly spoilt by a fire alarm mid way and a short stand in the freezing cold, but the staff kept us informed and dealt with the false alarm quickly. I'd have liked to have seen an offer of a free coffee or other gesture as an apology for the disruption to the meal though. The hotel is a Victorian beauty and the staff great, but I'd recommend a bigger room, as the standard double is not good by modern standards.

Good hotel, excellent position, friendly staff, sea view room small but comfortable & ideal for a short break to see the illuminations & visit the tower attractions.

everyone was friendly and service was good. I feel the hotel has seen better days but was clean and comfortable. £6 per night car park charge was a bit over the top when you had paid for a room there.

On balance an average stay experience
Large Hotel great location, décor although dated/ historic reasonably well maintained, varying degrees of service. Room well looked after and both Bar and Reception efficient, however evening meal in Palm Court Restaurant experience somewhat of a let down - Firstly- wrong unordered drink brought to table, which in fairness was replaced with the correctly ordered drink when I asked, the meal content for price paid was insufficient (small portions), the description of desserts on the Menu was misleading and requires re writing, and on settling the bill the Restaurant supervisor was visibly unhappy and rude when it was pointed out to him that the waitress had failed to rectify a problem with a dessert and or notified him of the change to the bill amount owed, this was poor as it is a basic customer service failure.
