Modern Hotel with Old Charm
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were nice and updated but still had some old character to them. Staff was accommodating and service was mostly great. We were placed right next to the elevator, which was really noisy, even with earplugs. If you’re a light sleeper, recommend a room away from the elevator. One bad note - one day we came back to find that our door had been left slightly open by housekeeping. Luckily we had all valuables locked in the safe, but when we brought it up with the front desk, they didn’t offer an apology, just said that they would pass it on. Make sure you lock up your stuff!

I love this place and would go again.
Great location and nice old hotel. The rooms are lovely and well decorated. The bathrooms are just old school and gorgeous. The location is convenient for SF.

Nice staff but ....
The hotel safely stored our luggage while we toured Alcatraz. Ladies, the lighting in the room was not good for applying makeup. They should install a makeup mirror in the bathroom. The cold water tap didn’t work and the fridge leaked. An old window in the bathroom let a lot of street noise in but the hotel did supply earplugs. They do have a very cool oyster bar on site. The hotel staff is amazing.

Great stay at union square!
We stayed here for a week vacation. The location is very good. Easy access to union square and shopping and public transit, including the cable car , which will take you to fisherman’s wharf. The hotel is refurbished older style with wood floors in the rooms. Which are very beautiful, if a little squeaky as wood floors can be. Bed is very comfortable. All was nice and clean. Did not use the gym or the bar, so can’t comment about those. The lighting is quite subtle, so a hand mirror near the window was needed for makeup application. It would be nice if the hotel would add lighted , magnifying mirrors in the bathroom. But would not fit in with style they are trying to attain. We did run the fan at night for white noise, and had no trouble with street noise. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and family.
