So, We had booked an unit in Dublin that turned out to be awful. We ended up booking this hotel so we could escape from the terable AirBNB in Dublin. Although the hotel is not right in Dublin and is a bit dated it sort of oozes it's era and time of glimmer. The room was huge and the staf were fantastic.

A Real Disappointment.
Their people are very helpful and friendly and well trained. The place is a dump, attempts at renos notwithstanding. Decorated circa 1980. Overrated, oversold, overvalued, view marginal, although they make you pay for it (you get an unplanned shower through the balcony ceiling if you try to sit out). Bedding nice but mattress like a washboard. Don't eat there! Only truly bad meal we had in the 3 weeks we were in Ireland. The restaurant feels like a basement... it IS a basement. Although they have a perfectly beautiful dining room that serves only overpriced breakfasts. We stayed at a range of accommodations. All were pretty good; some outstanding. This was hands-down, the worst.

Don't fall for the king bed trick!
Booked thru Hotels.com 2 King beds. Room we received were 2 double-queen beds. They assured us the beds were kings. Im from Dublin, wasn't born yesterday. Beds were double which is fine, just dont sell a product you clearly don't have. On the bright side we had an amazing view of a wall, literally!!! Room was dated. Breakfast was good though!

What was a 4 star is now probably 3 star
The Fitzpatrick was likely a great hotel in another era. Unfortunately the management has not continued to upgrade this property. The wall to wall carpet was stained and in need of repair. The beds were old and mattresses did not seem to be updated for many years. I would recommend this hotel for families because of the good room size and all there is to do in the area. Beautiful part of Dalkey. I would caution that this is not a 4 star hotel but more likely a 3 star hotel.

An upgrade will bring to its former glory
We arrived quite late to really enjoy the full amenities offered by the Fitz. We did enjoy lounging in the main area the following morning to excellent coffee and treats. With the exception of the main lobby and dining area, the grandeur of the past has been worn away and an investment in room/hall upgrades would really help with the overall impression. Still, I would return and hope to make it a longer visit.
