About Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa, Tokyo

Restful Tokyo hotel with a Japanese garden and tea house

Near Shinagawa Station

Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is a 5-minute walk from Shinagawa Station for JR lines to Narita Airport, Tokyo Disney Resort, and the shops and entertainments of Shibuya and Shinjuku. The station area is renowned for its ramen noodle shops, using regional recipes from across Japan.

The quieter side of Tokyo

It's a 20-minute walk from the National Park for Nature Study, a peaceful protected reserve of native forest and marshlands. You can learn about the famous 47 Ronin at the nearby Sengakuji Temple, then hop on the metro for a shopping spree in Ginza or a big night out in Roppongi.

Guest salons to relax in

The hotel's public spaces are pleasantly arranged around a tranquil Japanese garden, with a teahouse in the middle and an outdoor terrace at Grand Café Patio. You can enjoy a quiet chat in the cigar bar or guest salons, and restaurant options range from prime steak to sushi.

Lounging in a yukata

All 392 guestrooms are unusually spacious for a hotel in this area, with calming views of the garden and Tokyo Tower from the upper floors. You can change into a comfortable yukata cotton robe and settle in to watch a movie on the flat-screen TV with a cold minibar drink. Free WiFi is available.

Near the railway station but a little hard to find
This hotel can be a little hard to find if you are walking. There are at least two hotels on the property: Grand Prince Takanawa and the Grand Prince New Hotel Takanawa. We walked the few blocks from the railway station and ended up at the New. When we realized our mistake the staff at the New showed us the way to the correct (old) facility. The room was very clean, quiet and comfortable and the blackout curtains were effective against the morning sun. The bathroom was clean and functional. There are several restaurants on site and reservations are recommended but we were still able to get into one without reservations. Cost? It's a hotel restaurant so it;'s not cheap but the food quality was excellent. Breakfast can be available as part of the room cost. We did not go that route. As a standalone charge, breakfast is pricey compared to other hotels I have stayed at. There is a Royal Table restaurant nearby offering a lighter version of American style for much lower cost

Quiet and convenient location
Most spacious hotel room I've had in Japan, complete with king bed and sitting area. Beautiful garden between the 4 hotel buildings. Close to NEX and JR train station for easy access to Narita and Tokyo, with a shuttle between the station and hotels running during the day. Cons: room AC was not working during stay, bathroom showing its age, no robes provided (first hotel in Japan for me where this happened)
