Basic motel in town. No hairdryer or way to make coffee in the morning.

This reminds me of quaint roadside motels of times gone by. The rooms have been redone nicely quite recently. Ours was second level and offered a view to the north of grassy hills and the Parker School. Check in was easier than expected as they said 3-4 pm and in fact they can leave a key in a box for you and for us someone was there to help until 8. Waimea (aka Kamuela) is a somewhat sleepy town located on the beltway. It’s best know as home to the Parker Ranch so worth a visit once it reopens. It’s about 1/2 away so driving is probably in order but walking possible. There are a number of good restaurants within walking distance — forc is next door (not yet reopen as of early May 2021), Merriman’s is a short walk, and the Fish and the Hog is a 1/2 mile toward the east side. There is a natural grocery, food court and breakfast place (back side) in the mall. KTA grocery is not far and a small fridge allowed us to get a few in-room drink and fruit. We stayed two nights and drove down to Kohala coast (20 minutes) for excellent beach access. I do wish that they’d add a coffee maker! And the beds were a little firm for us. We also hit a cool night — it snowed in Mauna Kea, we heard — and so some extra blankets could have made it more cozy! There is no heat or a/c from what we could gather. On the whole, it’s a nice little place in good order for an affordable stay in this unique area of the Big Island.

    Disappointing Stay

We didn't have the best experience at the Waimea Country Lodge. Leina was great, but the walls were paper thin, the carpet was stained, there was a live cockroach in the bathroom, and the bed sheets were itchy. Unfortunately, we won't be staying at the lodge again the future.

The lady who checked us in was very friendly, called to confirm our arrival time, and sent us a detailed email for our late check-in. The room was very clean and the property was very quiet. This was my second stay here and I would stay here again if in the area overnight.

    Ok stay

The hotel is near to town and the WMKO offices so that was great and I could walk everywhere. The door lock to my room was not working (no dead bolt) and the TV did not work at all. Overall fine for a couple of nights but kind of run down.

    Nice place

Cute little place to stay! I’d stay here again. Not a far drive from the hot spots. Looks like it’s been recently renovated.

Due to Covid 19 office hours are now 8am - 4pm. The office contacted me in advance to let me know details on where my room key would be. Front desk employee Leina was AMAZING she made my stay very comfortable and pleasant!

    Be prepared for bugs

The bedding was clean and bathroom stocked. When we noticed a freely-roaming cockroach around midnight that would have gotten on our personal belongings, had we not quickly moved them, I called the emergency number and was asked to wait til 8 am (8 hours later) as no one would assist sooner.
