Profile: Downtown Las Vegas

Profile: Downtown Las Vegas

Downtown Las Vegas, just north of The Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard, is neon-drenched Vegas at its best. A sprinkling of motels, casinos, and kitschy wedding chapels edge the palm tree-lined Boulevard until you hit the rejuvenated Fremont Street, where night-time animation shows light up the bustling canopied walkway. Here, you can spot animated favorites like the kicking-leg cowgirl and the cigar-smoking cowboy, and grab an old-fashioned steak dinner at a classic joint.

The area is also home to the Downtown Arts District, which hosts a variety of gallery walks and tours in the city’s artistic hub.

    Great hotel but ..

We love the Grand. Very clean, great value and close enough to Fremont to enjoy the entertainment. Only thing that we didn’t enjoy was the nightly concerts on Fremont going on until 1am. 11pm is fine which most outdoor concerts go till, but 1am and on a weekday seems a little bit much. The Grand provides noise cancelling machines to drown the music out, however the base can been felt throughout the room. I can’t imagine how bad it is at other hotels closer to the action. Will stay again but will ask for a higher floor farther down the street.

The pool is closed and the gym is in a hotel room, but they still charged a U$26 resort fee (which irks me in the first place--just charge me what the hotel costs, don't nickel and dime me). But to their credit they waived the fee when asked, although said that that waiving would not be repeated in my lifetime.

The hotel is really clean, not overly busy and just across the street from Fremont Street. The free shuttle bus to the strip is super convenient for those who wants to go to the strips. The Craps table dealers were funny and friendly and was willing to teach me to play the game. Definitely would stay here again.

Bathroom in the Casino was horrendous, majority of the stalls plugged and over flowing for the whole week we were there. Music was so loud and terrible in the restaurant you couldn’t have a conversation

    Very very noisy room experience.

My sole reason for booking was to get some much needed sleep after a long day and a very long drive, so I requested a quiet room . Unfortunately, when I arrived they told me that all the rooms were booked even though I had a confirmed reservation, then made me wait for 3/4 of an hour to have the manager find me another room..I was told I got a suite upgrade...but when I got there, it was above a very very loud club whose music was actually shaking the floor and the windows it was so loud. I went back down to tell them this, and the clerk said that although he said he gave me a quiet room, he had actually been in that room and knew about the noise , but said the hotel usually did not disclose this information to people being given rooms in this part of the hotel. I told them that I had a handicap and then was told that there was either to pay for a valet or park myself a long way away in their multistory parking ramp. I am on a budget, so I had to walk the long walk. The clerk in the morning said she would remove the hotel add-on charge for my grief but that she was restricted to that and that alone as all the compensation for a really bad experience, which meant I had a very small amount of sleep which was my original reason for stopping there.

Paid for an upgraded room, came with two bottles of water and nothing else. I mean not a pen and paper, not a coffee machine, NOTHING else. Resort fee of $30 USD charged at the hotel which I assume covers access to the pool and gym? Hotel is under renovations and gym has been moved, pool was open till 4pm and although it was over twenty degrees out they didn’t have a single person at the pool staffing anything, no drinks no food nothing. So what’s my $$$ going to? Table minimum was $10 at noon on a Friday when most options are $5 on freemont street, I don't mind the walk but just made no sense. Rooms were clean and that’s about all I can really say this place had going for it given the price we paid and the services we received (none).
