The property had a great vibe - as many boutique hotels do. Room was older but well maintained with some nice modern pieces - like a glass desk. Bar was solid - decent food. I was there on a Monday for biz - but even then, good group. I think this hotel attracts a fun crowd.

Great location for the Galleria and access to shops, restaurants and public transportation. Awkward to access the entrance by vehicle being close to a freeway. Traffic can be heavy around the hotel. Staff did not always respond to requests but overall our stay was good.

Check in was fast and easy. You can choose valet or self parking. While we were there, the elevator for the parking garage was out of service but we could easily call someone to come pick us up and take us to the front door. This was offered while the elevator got fixed. The staff has always been very helpful and friendly every time we've stayed at The Derek.

This was definitely the worst hotel experience I’ve had. I would never ever stay there again. It didn’t meet any of my expectations on any level. I expect a hotel to be clean, well maintained, efficient and friendly. This one is not one of those!

The shower didn’t work and neither did the ice machine on my floor. The elevator smelt like marijuana. The room didn’t look like it was cleaned very well as there was still trash on the ground. Overall not a pleasant stay.
