For the money, the room was super spacious, well appointed, super clean, and run by kind staff. We looked quite a bit and did not find a comparable option for the same price with the modern decorations, cleanliness, and room for 2 people with a ton of luggage (2 elevators worth!).
The mattresses and pillows are on the super firm side (the firmest we've ever had) which appealed to me and was not offensive to my girlfriend. Our floor was quiet at night and we rarely heard guests while sleeping. It was necessary to always keep the window open because the rooms lack air conditioning and fans. This meant that sometimes there would be street noise or cigarette smoke that would waft, but neither were too extreme to be bothersome. A trick we learned to help keep the room cool is to block out the afternoon sun with the curtains and to not use the TV for long periods of time as they are older models and heat the room significantly.
The area felt very safe to walk around in the daytime. We were invisible despite being gringos, and we sampled delicious street food and small local restaurants. There is a lovely crepe place on the same block that reminded me of europe with a mexican flair. The area gets a bit dodgy at night so we did not travel outside without cabs after dark. In truth, it is not more dangerous than any edge neighborhood at night of a major US city and far less edgy feeling than some other parts of Latin America.
We enjoyed our stay and extended an extra 2 nights.
