Rubbish hotel - buck up or shut down!

Really disappointed by our stay at this hotel. I pre-paid for two nights when I checked in. Where do we start with the issues?! 1. I was informed that the restaurant was closed after we checked in - they should have pre-warned us as we had to go into Dorking to find somewhere to eat. Stepping Stones pub nearby is excellent by the way. Really good staff and great food. 2. In line with other reviews - the hotel is ‘tired’ in places - they’ve had an extended lockdown period to make the place look great - why didn’t they? 3. Parking - major gripe on this. The hotel isn’t in a town centre. I appreciate they need to charge non-guests for using the car park but asking guests to pay £10 per car per night is a total rip-off. 4. Pet friendly - another major issue for us. We booked the hotel because it was supposed to be pet-friendly. It really isn’t - so be aware if you want to take your furry friends away with you. Staff were confused amongst themselves as to which areas we could take the dogs into. I accept that the restaurant area should be off-limits - but the bar? We were asked to relocate to a solitary table with hard chairs. In short - towards the end of our first evening I told the manager at the front desk that we felt extremely unwelcome and would prefer to take our chances elsewhere. In fairness - the hotel respected this and refunded our payment for the 2nd night. We can thoroughly recommend the White Horse in Dorking - completely different experience!

Disappointed to discover on arrival that the pool was out of service and also the restaurant (which we had a booking confirmation for) was also closed. Stayed for two nights for the Bacchus marathon and had extended our stay for two nights specifically to use the pool facilities. We were given free parking as compensation but didn’t really make up for the lack of facilities given it was the reason for choosing the hotel and still paid the same rate.

      Tired, dated and dirty!!

Where do I begin?! The location was nice, out of the way. However, tired doesn’t even come to mind!! Downstairs of the hotel has had a face lift… the rooms are very much needed! The bathroom was mouldy and the curtains were filthy. The room was dank and dingy. Doors banged closed every half an hour or so, the last person to go to bed was at 4:50am!! After the wedding had finished. The restaurant was closed not to our knowledge. The facilities were dates but also closed. So we payed all in all for just a room for the weekend, oh that they also put us in a twin room, not a double that I had payed for. To add to the disaster of a weekend. We had to head home early because of illness! Don’t bother going, not worth the money! Please improve!!

      Burford Bridge great Hotel

Privilege Room was excellent overlooking garden and you could see the pool. The only problem was it was near 2 doors(1 on the same floor and 1 downstairs) which guests constantly let slam each time they walked through and then thudded along the corridor. So not as peaceful as one had hoped! Having phoned and been told the Restaurant would be open for evening meals,we were somewhat taken aback when we were told the Restaurant was closed and the Bar was open for light bites until 5pm.As we like to eat early and we didn’t want to go out we tried the Bar food.We can highly recommend it.The fish & chips were delicious,so were the Caesar Salad with Salmon or Chicken. The desserts of the day were to die for.10/10 for food and all the staff were lovely.Good heated pool.Would definitely stay again.

      Honest report

The hotel was very dirty - not been cleaned properly for a long time - cobwebs and spiders in public corridors, cobwebs in dining room and filthy windows but worst of all dust everywhere in the bedroom - light fittings, lampshades, skirting boards and dirty stained curtains.

      Overall very disappointing

The staffing situation was terrible. The bar was manned by one person who was also running reception and phone! Rooms are looking very tired however we’re clean. Breakfast was ok however again one person trying to clear spaces fill buffet and check people in

      Great

We only stayed one night but had a good impression of the hotel. Reception found us a room when at the last minute we had to bring our kids. Rooms are clean and tidy. Grounds and pool are lovely with a great view of box hill above. Dinner was not available but found a lovely pub 5mins walk away for our dinner.

      Major issues

We were staying for fri/sat night for my best friend's wedding and were travelling down from Manchester. Received a call on the morning we were travelling down saying they couldn't honour the booking. Though their manager did work hard and was successful at getting us another hotel with the same facilities, it was much further away from the wedding venue and no longer walking distance of the wedding venue, which is one of the main reasons I had chosen this hotel originally. Staying at the new hotel made the wedding extremely awkward and the entire process on the Friday very stressful when you're already having to drive for 6 hours with a toddler. Though I appreciate Lesley's (the manager) help getting another hotel at such short notice, I think it was appalling service from Mercure in general in not telling us until the day we were travelling down!

      No Food

The hotel has a fabulous outdoor pool area. Unfortunately thats the best thing about it. We waited for an hour for our room to be ready. The room was fine but could maybe do with a bit of updating/deep cleaning. I came down for dinner with my 3 year old at 6pm to be told they weren't serving any food in the hotel. As i understand it they were having issues with the chef which is fine but please LET YOUR GUESTS KNOW! They could maybe have had a list of nearby restaurants or takeaways ready which would have been a help at least. The hotel has the potential to be very good just seems to be very understaffed.
