What a little gem in the Tenderloin! Front desk staff was amazing and the property is definitly photo worthy! The pool was open and warm just didnt have time to take a dip. Enjoyed a delicious assortment of bites and hand crafted drinks in the super cute trendy on site restaurant. Parking was super easy and the beds were comfortable! Excellent breakfast spots within walking, as well as walked to hop on the canle car line right from the hotel. Not sure if I would walk far in that neighborhood at night, maybe grab an Uber. Great bang for your buck in San Fran!

Unexpected find
Very close to Civic Center Plaza Bart station, so easy commute from airport. Area IS sketchy, but hotel itself is an unexpected oasis. Funky courtyard surrounding pool. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Good value for money. Not the best area for a stroll, but some good restaurants not too far.

Funky Phoenix - Making Motels Cool Again
The hotel is super cool and trendy and has a really great vibe to it. The neighbourhood around the hotel is sketchy but I felt very safe inside the compound. The only tricky thing is if people are out on the patio area at night it is really noisy and you can hear everything. So if you're a light sleeper this place isn't for you. I was there during the week and only had one night of rowdy folks outside my window but otherwise it was all good and I really enjoyed it. It was like a little Oasis in the middle of San Francisco!

Exceptional 10.0
Everything about this hotel seemed well thought out - Casper mattresses & pillows were incredibly comfortable, filtered water dispenser in the courtyard and really good security. It felt like an oasis in a very busy city. It was great to come back after a busy day being a tourist and chill in the cabanas by the pool. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

Unique stay
Big fan of all the JDV hotels. The Phoenix is a little slice of heaven in a bad neighborhood. You’re perfectly safe here and so is your car. The service is great. Room is cool. Bed comfy. Bathroom has a fan. Pool is heated. Restaurant is quaint. I recommend this place if you want a unique stay.

Uber cool retro motel
Great people and very stylish chic motel. Area around can be a bit dicey.

Not a very peaceful place
If you are looking for a peaceful, quiet stay, this is not the place. It felt more like an ongoing outdoor party in the middle of the motel space. It was loud. Very loud. Loud voices, loud doors, loud music, loud exchanges, loud ice maker machine... Even if you are in your room, it feels like every noise is happening inside your room. Music was on (provided by the motel) until about 11:30pm the two nights I was there. It was difficult to get a good night's rest there. Besides the noise level, everything else was just okay. I was expecting more considering the rating this place was given and given the price. I won't be staying here again.
