Worst hotel experience in 45 years
Upon registering I was asked for a security deposit of $200 which was not in any of the promotional material. I do not use credit cards and was not going to give the clerk cash, The clerk was adamant and so was I. The clerk decided to waive the security deposit which he knew was wise. We got to the room and found two soiled face clothes in the bathroom. The TV had no viewing guide to see what channels or programs were available. During the night we could hear above us every time the flush was flushed due to water flowing through the sewage pipes. The bed was to be a King, and it was a Queen and sloped so bad in the middle it was hard for the two of us to sleep. This was the worst hotel experience in my 45 years of extensive travel. I will be communicating my experience, so others can avoid disappointment and discomfort.

The property is lovely! Check-in staff at the front desk were very welcoming! We did encounter a less than friendly hostess unfortunately in the main dining room on our first night. We requested a 1 chair be added to our table and she flat out refused - seemed like she just wanted to be difficult and was extremely rude - after the interaction, her face showed visual contempt for our group which I witnessed myself (there were 7 children under the age of 9 at the table who did not need to witness this behavior). It would have been the equivalent of a highchair addition to the table. We ended up bringing the issue to the person in charge and they let us add the chair! No problem! Put a bad taste in our mouths on night one.

The Algonquin resort is beautiful. It is like walking back in time, however with modern amenities. All of the staff were very helpful, especially the front desk manager on the night of our check-in. Expedia did not pass along the information for the breakfast included for the price that was paid, even though I had the email stating it did. The manager on duty made it right and presented us with the breakfast passes. The breakfast buffet was well stocked and had lots of choices. The serving staff were very friendly and helpful. The staff at Braxton's bar went above and beyond for service. If staying more than one night, take advantage of the golf course and the shuttle in to town. Will definitely be back!

Breakfast staff were very unorganized and food was very disappointing at breakfast. The buffet was not replenished and when some food would come out it was cold over cooked. Along with taking way too long to get seated to the point we had to do it ourselves. Hostess training is a must and she was very overwhelmed and unorganized.

Shocking Pet Policy Surprise
We enjoyed the historic resort experience very much, with two issues: • I have severe cat allergies and I had NO IDEA that ALL rooms are available to dogs and cats. I was shocked that there aren't specific rooms that are available to people with allergies. Luckily I had access to multiple Allegras, but the issue was very stressful. Dogs are also allowed everyone on the property, except the main eating area in the restaurant. • Second, for a resort with this reputation, the food is below average. There are no breakfast options except for the breakfast buffet, which is very mediocre at best, and costs $25 per person! We had no idea until we received our $50 bill.
