Amazing service!
We are native Edmontonians who escaped to Calgary several years ago. We chose the Mac because of its historical significance and central location. Our stay was just lovely! It is a beautiful old hotel that has been updated with careful attention to its original character. The staff were amazing; everyone seemed to be genuinely happy to be working at the hotel - especially the hotel dog who roams the lobby. Staff doted on my elderly Mum and upgraded her room without request. This hotel overlooks the river valley and is only steps away from access to an amazing pathway which is totally accessible by stairs or an elevator system. We will absolutely return!

Room 230: NO. Room 526: YES. Mariana: YES.
First, the Fairmont's always great. But here's what happened on our recent 5-night stay: we showed up a little early for check-in. The person behind the counter said "Let me see if I can find a room that's ready now." She "found" us what must be one of the worst in the hotel: room 230—don't stay in this room if you can help it. It's directly across from one of the housekeeping stations, which in practice means that there's a door slamming over and over again, right outside of the room, ALL MORNING. No posibility of sleeping in, or even sleeping past 8am. Annoying, very. We finally got fed up, and my girlfriend stepped outside to ask the housekeeping staff why they had to keep just letting the door slam behind them. They acted like she was crazy ("Noise? What noise? I don't hear any noise."). Tip for hoteliers: DO NOT gaslight your paying guests. Anyway one of the staff must have told the front desk, as a very professional lady named Mariana (hope I got her name right, she's excellent) called up and let us know she'd be finding us a better room. She took my number and said we'd get a text when the room was ready. We never got the text (I don't believe this was Mariana's fault). My girlfriend stayed working in the room, waiting for some contact from the front desk, which never came. When she finally called down, it was the same original desk person there, who AGAIN tried to gaslight her. Anyway we finally, with hostility, got moved to room 526—which was truly a perfect room.
