    Great experience at the Topaz

Great hotel in a very good location. Close to shops, sites, metro, restaurants. The included beakfast was all we needed, and the weekday afternoon wines were appreciated. Will aim for the Topaz when returning to DC.

    Did not sleep

I could not sleep the one night I was there. I realized that the rooms were separated by a partition and not a real wall. The light from the next room came through and so did the noise. The person next to me had a tv on the whole night

    friendly staff, nice wine reception!

Overall, things were good. The room was more than adequate -- though the layout was rather unusual, with a little alcove that had a daybed. I guess this adds extra sleeping space but it made the room seem cut up and not as spacious as it actually was. I enjoyed the eclectic decor. Bathroom facilities were also adequate, but the basin had a rather large crack and needs replacing. The wine reception was a nice touch, and the bartender (sorry, don't remember his name) had all kinds of good recommendations for restaurants in the area. Two things I didn't like: 1. I know that some hotels add a charge to the online booking rate (I used expedia) but I wasn't made aware of that charge until I was checking out. This is not really acceptable -- seems like a somewhat underhanded way to get a few extra dollars out of the guest. 2. The Business Centre charges for computer access. This seems ridiculous since most guests have their own devices anyway and the only reason to access a computer would be for printing -- it's even more annoying since on top of making you pay for access they also charge for printing! Seems a little petty to me.

a mixture of 3 and 4 stars hotel.

A good hotel for the rate, the hotel crews were very nice and responsive. I wish they had a large lobby. The parking charges were too much. Also, the in-room bar items were too expensive.

    Fun Getaway with Friends

The staff at the front desk were friendly and helpful. The location was excellent, easy to get around. A varied selection of restaurants were within walking distances. The room was large, quiet, clean and well appointed. The only negative was that the bed (king) was squeaky. When mentioned to the staff they indicated that the problem was being looked into with the manufacturer. Really enjoyed the complementary wine at happy hour.

    Just right

If you want a destination hotel in DC there are are plenty - at a price. I'd rather pay only for what I can use. The Topaz is not a destination hotel but it was perfect for us. Very close to every type of restaurant. After a long hot day's walk their lobby's liquid refreshments were most thoughtful and welcome.

    Puppy Perfect

I came to DC to surprise my sister with a puppy for her graduation. The neighborhood was perfect. Restaurants within walking distance. There was more than enough room for the puppy to run around. Happy hour was great.
