    Disappointing expensive stay

The room was dusty from the start and not hoovered once in our 5 night stay. The bin in the bathroom wasn’t emptied twice and there was no bin in the bedroom. Dirty glasses were left and unemptied plus no bottled water after day 1. The hygiene bags ran out on day 1 and were not replenished at all. The kettle had water left in it from the previous customer and only 1 cup and saucer left for 2 people! The key card didn’t work every time we went back to the room so had to trudge back to reception.......the novelty soon wore off. The cooked breakfast was disgusting.....undercooked sausages, undercooked eggs, it was lukewarm and just thrown on the plate with no presentation skills whatsoever. Every morning we also had to ask for sugar and ketchup....why were the pots on the table not replenished between customers? We had 2 meals in the bar as allegedly there was no room in the restaurant....the first night was after our long journey so didn’t feel like going out again so we were advised to look at the menu from the qr code in our room so imagine our surprise when we got down to the bar to discover that the menu resembled nothing like the one we had viewed....we were told it was being changed!! The 2nd time we had steak and were obviously asked how we would like it cooked....both of our steaks had to be sent back to the kitchen as pouring with blood which was not what we requested. Finally, why do you only have 1 disabled parking space...my partner has copd and struggles to breathe

Give it a miss, especially breakfast.

Really needs updating. They had a new menu but the staff were not able to explain what it was and the IT did not have any of the new menu items on the system. It was a bit chaotic. Breakfast was appalling. It was served cold and the poached egg was delivered over the side of the plate. Sent it back and another was delivered it was still luke warm and the bacon had spent so long on the hot plate it was like leather. Complained at reception but received the same tepied response and shoulder shrug for an appology.

Nice and child-friendly with access to pool

It was a great place to stay as a small family. Nice quiet room and decent beds. Our child was really happy. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. The spa with swimming pool was a real bonus. We were able to use it between 9-11 am and 4-6pm with a child. The breakfast was fine-nothing special but did the trick. We ate an evening meal locally at the Pesto The Yacht restaurant just 5 minutes up the road, which had been recommended on Trip Advisor. Great place, with kids menu and friendly service going the extra mile for kids. Really close to Chester Zoo (15 mins drive). Gets a great rating with everything we wanted for a mini break.

Bad experience all round apart from the staff

The staff were good but unfortunately, that was all. The main issue was that there is a small stream that runs directly in front of the hotel and this was full of sewage water. The smell lingered through the downstairs of the hotel including rooms. On reporting the obvious issue we were told it was farmers spreading muck on the fields, after taking someone outside to show the response "oh yes". The hotel is very tired with beds much in need of replacement and several things in the room that needed repairing including the shower and its screen. Maids didn't top up toilet roll (we were there for 3 nights), they removed half of our towels on the second day so had to get more and the cards to get into the room kept on failing (I know, don't put them near phones etc.) Food - evening meal was very expensive, the below Salmon starter was £9!!. I enjoy a la carte food and don't mind paying for quality but this was most definitely not quality. Burnt sausages for the kids which were almost raw inside and a very expensive cut of Steak that was again burnt on the outside and cold in the middle! We stuck to mainly continental breakfast after that. The pool was OK but is definitely not for kids. Kids swim time is 9am - 11am and 3pm - 6pm. The rules generally amount to the only thing you can do is swim because it is a "relaxation pool" - so not for kids! I don't normally do reviews but this hotel was not what it should be and MacDonald Hotels need to take a look at this location.

    Friendly and comfortable country hotel

We had requested an extra bed in thecr9om for our daughter. The room we wrre given was very large, with the extra bed as requested and a sofa and coffee table. It was a very comfortable, spacious room overlooking the gardens. The bathroom was clean and spacious. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. Parking was plentiful. Our only negative was the cost of the bar snacks. A ham sandwich ( admittedly served with crisps and salad) cost £7:50.

Asked to book spa before arrival spent two days prior to arrival with the spa not picking up the phone. Decided not to bother. Breakfast very slow and did not have simple things like Alpen cereal or marmalade as run out.
