Famous for its maritime history as well as being the home of time, Greenwich is a picturesque area situated on the banks of the River Thames with plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars, as well as the large expanse of Greenwich Park and The Wilderness Deer Park to explore. Many would consider Greenwich to be one of the most historically rich neighbourhoods of London, with the area dominated by the grand Old Royal Naval College and, further up the hill, the Royal Observatory which sits on the meridian line (the point from which all time zones are calculated around the world). The maritime heritage of the area is summed up in the presence of the beautiful Cutty Sark - an imposing old clipper ship used to speed tea from Asia to Victorian Britain - which is open to the public throughout the year. You can also visit the National Maritime Museum, located in the grounds of the Naval College, for a taste of Britain’s nautical history.
The closest grocery store is Valley supermarket on Charlton Lane, a 5-minute walk from your home. There is a cash point at the Valley supermarket shop and the nearest pharmacy is Warwick N S on Kingman Street.
Greenwich is well known for the quality of its restaurants and pubs, so you’re unlikely to go hungry or thirsty during your stay here. For food try Zaibatsu for the best noodles and sushi in town, it gets busy, only takes cash and is BYOB (bring your own beer)! There are a few local favourites, Sefa for their Turkish grill and Mountain View, for their Indian cuisine. As for pubs, we recommend The Gypsy Moth, with its a large beer garden and stunning views of the Cutty Sark, and also The Old Brewery, located within the beautiful grounds of the Old Naval College. Greenwich Market is open 7 days a week and features a wide variety of stalls selling everything from art to fashion and jewellery to delicious food. We particularly recommend The Andes Empanadas
for a taste of South America.
Woolwich Dockyard train station is the closest station (15 min walk). The number 177 and 161 buses towards the city centre run from stop Cleveley Close (Stop V) located 5 minutes away from the flat.
The Citymapper app is highly recommended for help getting around!
