Our stay at this Sandman Hotel was the worst experience we have ever had in a hotel and we were offered no compensation and management did not respond to our request to speak with them.
We were travelling from Victoria and arrived at the hotel at about 10pm. The man that checked us in was kind and friendly- this is review is not a reflection on him, as he is not the manager or owner. The outside temperature was -41 degrees Celcius. We started to unload our things into our room, including our two cats. We noticed right away that the room was freezing cold. We thought that maybe they only started the heat when we arrived. After unpacking our entire vehicle and pets, the room was not warming up. There was one base board heater under the window that was luke warm at best. The door had no weather stripping and cold air was blowing in the room. The electrical outlet below the window had freezing air coming through it. The fridge was broken, everything was dusty and there was a dirty rag on the vanity. We tried to call the front desk, but we could not get an answer.
Fortunately we had two down sleeping bags in the car for an emergency. We ended up sleeping in our sleeping bags in the bed with the blankets over our heads, three layers of clothes, and we heated our gel packs to keep our feet warm. In the morning, we found our cats' bowl of water frozen solid in the morning! We complained at the front desk and were told management would call us at 3pm. No call, no email, no refund.
