Management Change Needed
This hotel is in an amazing location and common facilities were excellent. Of 3 meals eaten at hotel 2 were very good. Breakfast was very mediocre. Ordered a la carte vs buffet. Scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and home fries all were buffet quality cold. The room (945) was on 3rd floor and no elevator. Told us it was because it was historic building yet main building (the original hotel) had an elevator. At 70 I don't like lugging up 3 floors. Room very nicely decorated but mechanics of room were disastrous. Entry door did not fit properly so security lock did not work. Took numerous tries to get entry key card to work (every time used). Screen door to balcony kept falling off track. Toilet was poorly installed on an angle and leaked. Gouge out of bathroom counter top. I've had bigger bathrooms on a sail boat. The safe lock was broken. The TV did not feature a program guide. Room service was ended for the season (Sept 15th)….. and no room service. Check in was courteous but mislead us about room availability by saying it was being cleaned and they would have supervisor check on it. We were early (12PM) so expected we might have to wait. Checked with front desk after lunch and after walk into town and kept getting same response. Finally got into room at 3:30PM. Top hotels don't lie to their guests. If room won't be ready until 4PM then tell them so they can plan their time. They were obviously short staffed and management hadn't compensated.

Surprised that the bathroom in our room, was in need of updating. When paying over $500/night, we expected everything to be close to perfect.

Soon to undergo a much-needed facelift...
I love the Harbor View Hotel. We were told it was recently purchased by another party and it will shut down for the entire winter of 2018-2019. I hate to say to say it but it really does need the renovation. We stayed in the other building out by the pool and it is badly in need of repair. We had an end room with an uneven floor so the drawers in the bureau kept rolling open and wouldn't stay shut. Housekeeping left something to be desired. (For the prices they charge, it's hard to overlook these things.) However, the wait staff and the front desk couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. It's still the best hotel on the island for my money. I'm sure they will come back stronger next season...possibly for a price.

Beautiful views and location in Edgartown.
View and location were fantastic. Beautiful area and walking distance to downtown Edgartown. Only two complaints were one of the restaurants was not open due to renovation and we booked and paid for king bed and received queen, mentioned it politely but no amends made.
