It was pretty sad.The bed was clean;I checked....Everything is tired and the renovations make it feel even more dingy.Reception was very friendly. I am glad I was only there for a lay over.

Great location slightly off the main drag, with plenty of places close by for food/shopping. The hotel itself is older and shows signs of neglect. There are ongoing renovations - balconies under repair until April 2019 which are very loud. Because of that, at least some of the units don't have access to their balconies. My unit also didn't have AC.

Coconut is a Coco-not!
Not sure how this hotel got rated so highly. It's pretty mediocre for the most part and certainly isn't a resort - despite the $25 a night resort fee they tack on to your bill. The room was very noisy thanks to old louvered windows that let the sound of the busy traffic on Ala Wai Blvd right in. It sounded like trying to sleep under an overpass. The room was supplied with ear plugs whited helped somewhat while sleeping but not if you wanted to watch TV. Several areas of the room were in bad shape. Scrapes on the bathroom door, a bathroom towel hook that was about to fall off the wall. There was a kitchenette but only one small coffee mug was supplied. The layout of the room was very poor as well. The doorway into the room was right beside the bed which meant that if you opened the door anyone in bed was visible to anyone standing outside the door. The air conditioning in an old window insert type which made a lot of noise (which helped to drown out the traffic noise) but only work sporadically. The room had a balcony but it was sealed off and unusable as it seemed to be in rough shape and I'm assuming to dangerous to go out on. Breakfast was pretty basic, and there was a very small pool. I've seen reviews giving credit to wonderful service at the Coconut Waikiki, but we certainly didn't observe anything remotely exemplary.

A must stay.
A hotel with character and a great staff. It has soul, unlike the larger hotels in the area. The parking was a pain, but that is my only complaint. It is an older hotel, this shows in its character. The staff is amazing. I spent 8 days and would not hesitating staying a second time.
