The Bund Riverside Hotel is far from the Bund.
The hotel was 7 blocks from the Bund, I thought it was much closer because of the name. Paid for Queen bed and river view. When I got there they had only twin beds and city view. Impossible to get refund for the difference. Told me to call Hotels.com in the USA for refund. Difficult and extremely expensive on a Canadian phone contract. Also the beds were extremely hard, even to Chinese standards. We had booked three days so did the best of it.

Great location, very comfortable, good value.
I have to say, I was very lucky on this stay to get a free upgrade to the Executive floors. The view was of downtown Shanghai, and while I only had it for one night and it was stormy outside, it was still breathtaking. The price was very reasonable, and the room was immaculate and very well appointed. There were only two things I had complaints about, nothing major but worth noting - firstly is the restaurant on the top floor was cash only, and could not bill to my room. That was strange. When I ordered room service, the food delivered was unfortunately not very good either. However, the upgraded room was so comfortable that I did not really complain too much. One other tiny thing - the toilet in the bathroom was of Japanese design yet none of the functions seemed to work (aside from basic flushing). Minor issue. Hotel front desk staff had good English skills, however the other employees were generally weak on English. This is to be expected and did not affect my review. I would highly recommend staying here - it's two blocks from a major metro station, and a five minute walk to The Bund. Great location and very comfortable.

Quick to Bund, okay hotel
Our stay was not a good one as the hotel was undergoing renovations. The renovations were loud and continuous and made it difficult to get any rest. The rooms were mediocre and they did not have the beds that were stated in the hotels.ca booking (we were told a queen, but did not have a room available with it on 2 of our bookings). Air conditioning is a constant struggle in China as they don't seem to be working for most parts of the year...(in general not specifically this hotel) The location to the Bund was amazing once you get past that you are on some sort of lab/engineering parts for sale street. The price was also great.

Xenophobic attitude from the hotel staff
This was the second time I booked this hotel thru hotels.com, both times I was made to sit in the lobby for over an hour, as they claim they did not recieve my booking. This last time it was worse, the lady was very angry and was shouting at my translator who I had booked a room at the same hotel as well. My translator was apologizing to me continuously for the hotel's manager's clear racial attitude towards me. She made very clear that some people who are of a certain race are not welcomed, at this hotel. As a business person I travel to a lot of countries. I have never been made so unwelcome at any hotel ever. If hotel employees have a dislike for certain people because of the way they look, that should not be reflected on paying customers. Best to advertise that certain people of color are not welcome. I am very unhappy with the way hotels.com handled the situation as well. I think the second agent who called the hotel, could tell what was going on as well, however they left me waiting in the hotel for over an hour.
