6/10 Good

We were not told about amenities- such as availability of beach chairs. We didn’t know where breakfast was served. I didn’t realize the hotel was multiple houses and lastly that they would not clean the room daily, especially to empty the garage.

Location and historic
Second summer stay. Great location and comfortable room in historic house for good price. Omelette, bread and coffee breakfast extra and overpriced. Friendly and helpful innkeeper.

Beautiful hotel in Newport
Beautiful quiet bed & breakfast and great location. Very short walk to Thames Street. Love the room decor with floral wallpaper and chandelier. This was our second time staying here, and plan to come back next year. I recommend rooms #9, #6 and #3, (9 &3 have great wallpaper)but 3 can be noisy …next to the kitchen. The French toast at breakfast is fantastic.

My wife and I were booked at Melville House in late June last year - and we were really looked after by Rick, the property host. We were on our honeymoon and Rick really went out of his way to make sure that we had an unforgettable experience, so we can’t thank him enough for what he did for us from putting us in a wonderful room to providing excellent suggestions for meals. When you book at Melville House, you need to remember that you’re staying at a property that is 200 years old. It has all the modern conveniences but to stay in Newport, you need to stay in a property that has character and that should take you on a journey away from your normal surroundings. The street that Melville House is full of character, as is the surrounding area. I can heartily recommend a stay at Melville House, but call beforehand and ask for Rick. He’s a real ambassador for Newport and he will make sure that you have an unforgettable Newport stay.
