On the positive side, the hotel is conveniently located to businesses, restaurants and supermarket. The staff were attentive, the meals were good (both the breakfast buffet and lunch/dinner ordered off of the menu). The room was comfortable and clean. Needing improvement: The internet was nearly unusable: difficult to download or send files in email, difficult to use voice Skype, long time to load some web pages, connection comes and goes randomly. For our meeting, everyone had to have the same lunch dish, no individual choices or even having half and half. The meeting room had a partition halfway through the room that made it impossible to use both halves of the room, so all participants had to be squeezed into one half.

A decent hotel with a very good kitchen. It is let down by carelessness in housekeeping and being quiet to the point of boring. The restaurant, bar and pool do not seem to attract people other than guests. The location is inconvenient with nothing of interest within walking distance. Partly as a result of this the hotel could do with having a shop selling the basics and some snacks. Next time I will look for something smaller and in the old town

Travel Back in Time to Classic Tana- once a very extravagant and spared-no-expense Hilton Hotel in the 1960s, in modern times the Carlton hotel has aged to a point no renovation can mask. However, it still has a classic elegant charm. Rooms are small but comfortable, great views of the lake. Breakfast included is decent, pool is quite nice. AC is decent, WiFi seemed acceptable but not super fast. If I were rating in a modern or developed city this would be a 3 or 3.5 star rating.

The backside pool area is by far the best feature of this hotel! The hotel is from the 1960s and still feels that way. It is an oasis of luxury in a neighborhood where average Malagasies live in difficult conditions
