Change of pace for a business trip.
Was in NYC for business. Decided to stay in SoHo this time. It meant taking the subway to the financial district and the hotel didn't have the amenities of a luxury chain, but it was great value. I enjoyed being in a neighbourhood where real people lived. Would do this again. Staff was great. Lots of good places to eat within walking distance. Lots of bad places too; worth checking reviews.

Very nice stay
All round this was a very good hotel, clean, friendly service, comfortable and in excellent condition. Essex subway station nearby as well as several restaurants, deli and excellent ice cream place. Appreciated the queen size beds, since there were four of us. Breakfast was okay- hardboiled eggs, yogurt, cereal and milk, packaged oatmeal. They should definitely do away with the orange drink and replace it with real juice!

Quite expensive but decent
Pretty good stay! The hostel was clean, neat, and rather comfortable. However I wish we had thicker sheets. The price is quite expensive for what you get as well.

You can do it
Basically I had the same experience as many other visitors. In short the hotel is ok but there are some strange things like extra fees. As I entered the lobby a maybe 14 years old sat at the reception desk. When I asked him to check-in he replied with: "Gimme five minutes" and continued to doing exactly nothing. Then the receptionist came around and was perfectly friendly and professional. Note that there is a 100 $ deposit on check-in, which is not communicated clearly in the online booking process. The room was clean yet appreciable old-fashioned as the whole hotel. I booked a bed in a 4 bed dorm. What I got was an bunk bed in a 6 bed dorm. On check-in you will be assigned a bed. If you use another bed then you will be fined 50 $ according to there terms and conditions. Strange enough, on the second night a guy showed up in my room and told me that I was laying in his bed; they assigned the same bed to two persons. I stayed in the 6th floor. From there you have a beautiul view on the One World Trade Center. For each floor there is a Wi-Fi network running flawlessly. Next to the hotel there are a lot of conveniece stores, a few bars and a metro station.
