Profile: Downtown Guadalajara

Profile: Downtown Guadalajara

For sightseers, Downtown Guadalajara is an aesthetic feast. Many of the city’s star attractions are located here, from the cathedral with its glinting gold spires, to the Palacio de Gobierno with its imposing Baroque façade and political murals by Jose Clemente Orozco.

Once you’ve ticked off the landmarks, there’s lots more to do. You can shop among chatty locals in the colorful San Juan de Dios Market, soak up the city’s past at the Jalisco Regional Museum, or throw yourself into Guadalajara’s tequila-drenched nightlife. Downtown might be old, but it still knows how to party.

This hotel has the best front desk manager in all my travels.I spend about 200 days a year in hotels. When I want to smile and need to be reminded of traditional hotel managers. I Think of him and come here my whole family all 9 of us feel the same way. He is a front desk jewel. I stay an average of 20 to 30days every time I come here. I once considered living here. The downside after he leaves its crap night desk is a nightmare unhelpful, sleeping telling you it's not his job is the line. On several occasions, we had to turn on hall lights because he could not be bothered. I suppose the owner of this hotel cares what we think. This identical review has been given many times. Yet day front desk a jewel after that awful . I know a p.r. person reads this thanks me and does not tell owners or investors of our complaints as over the years it has not changed. I check out of 3 properties owned by same people this is the only one that has a good rating and makes you money. This stays was for the summer but you cannot expect one person to give the service that keeps clients like us from returning.I do not wish to say goodby to this gran place. But we can. I am currently staying here for 3 days I will decide one last summer here or make you a memory. Also, I have asked my staff to track down who owns the hotel.I would like to talk to you or just count on a note. Take good care of your front desk manager during the day he is a jewel.

    We will return....

A great authentic Mexico hotel close to The Basilica and the mercado. The front desk staff was good although the gentleman working seemed to think that we hadn't paid for our room when checking in. After showing him our online receipt and credit card statement (with personal info hidden) he relented. I must admit that most hotels in Mexico don't allow for booking payment so I came prepared for this situation when I noticed that the payment had been deducted from my card already. The room was very spacious and the bed comfy. Not too many channels on the tv but we aren't here to watch tv, are we? No pool either but it wasn't too warm out at this time of year. We would stay here again on our next visit to Guadalajara.

Hotel SF Plaza is a beautifully restored building showcasing classic colonial architecture. While the accommodation is not like a posh resort, it is an excellent value for the rates charged. Low rates, basic amenities, very helpful staff add up to an excellent value.

    Every Room A Different Quirk

This could be the hotel for you depending upon what you are looking for. The hotel building itself is a beautiful somewhat grand old lady. The staff was warm and helpful. They have a restaurant that served the standard fare. The rooms were not created equal. Our room had new finishes with a beautiful bathroom and a shower that actually had decent water pressure. However, there was no closet, nowhere to hang up clothes, the bed uncomfortable, the sheets paper thin, tv didn't work, the locks were fussy and it took about 20 attempts to get into the room. My brother's room had old finishes but a rather grand room but the shower just spit and also locks that didn't work well. None of the rooms had plush amenities such as a hair dryer. They had the worst towels that were so threadbare they belonged in a rag bag. Management should hit a JC Penney white sale and spring for some new towels. If you are looking for a clean, friendly place where there are mostly Mexican nationals this is the place for you. If you are looking for a plush hotel rich with amenities try somewhere else.
