Simply OK.
Irwin's Mountain Inn is a solid place to stay in Banff. It's not going to be the nicest place in town, but it's also not the most expensive. Our room was nicely sized with an updated bathroom. The balcony with a mountain view was pretty amazing. The location is fantastic. When you stay here, you're a quick 5 minute walk away from all the restaurants and shops of Banff. It's extremely convenient. Main issues? The dual queen beds in our room were in no way comfortable. Both were extremely firm, and I just didn't sleep well. Sleeping well is important when you're hiking all day. While the bathroom has clearly been updated, the shower had a fixed position that just doesn't work for taller folk like me. The other main issue is parking. Irwin's shares parking with the hotel next door, and there aren't many surface spots. There is a garage, but it's limited to smaller cars. I saw the lot full in two of the evenings we were there. The hotel's website suggests leaving the car and using public transport if you already have a spot. I don't think they have enough spots for the rooms, and with everyone driving larger SUV's the garage isn't going to help. Would I stay again? Possibly. I wouldn't book a queen room and instead cross my fingers that the king beds are better.

6/10 Good

Function not form
Great location for Banff downtown. Accommodation was basic but functional. Room was very noisy with internal and external noises (ground floor location next to a kitchen door). Layout of our room was poor with very few power sockets and a sink in the room and not the en -suite bathroom. Feels like the inn has seen better days and not really value for money
