Poor hotel
Poor quality all round. Would not go back

Lovely historic building
The room in the historical building was lovely and clean, with nice thick fluffy towels. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only negatives were the very lumpy pillows (all were the same and were very uncomfortable) and the lack of any music at breakfast. It was so quiet I could hear my husband and the gentleman on the next table chewing and swallowing and it made for an uncomfortable experience (although the food itself was excellent and could not be faulted)

The hotel and grounds are lovely and very characterful. The staff are helpful but didn’t seem that happy or welcoming, they didn’t do anything wrong as such it was just the vibe they gave out. We had a family room which was big in terms of square foot but the height was stupidly small. It was up in the eves , and the beams and ceiling were so low my husband had to stoop to avoid hitting his head and managed to whack his head off it in the night. The bathroom had signs of black damp in the corner and because the ceiling was so low the shower over the bath was impossible to use for my husband. We didn’t eat a full meal there, we ordered 2 deserts and 2 drinks to come to the room which cost £25. The deserts were dry and the salted caramel pot came with something which was indescribable as it was so hard I couldn’t even break it with my hand! The breakfast on the other hand was fabulous. However I think if I could book a room with a normal ceiling height we would come again as the location and the hotel in general was lovely. It’s a real shame that there hasn’t been much investment into the rooms and decor as with a bit of tlc this could be made into a beautiful spa hotel

Stayed 2 nights. Room was really cold as heating was not working properly. Had portable heater but still cold. Service really good. Margaret and Dennis are a credit to the hotel. Very chatty and delivered service with a smile. Nothing too much trouble. Lady at breakfast was lovely too. Hotel needs a bit if TLC . Could potentially be a great place.

Poor initial service but good breakfast.
I arrived before 9.30pm when the evening meal was supposed to be served until, only to be met on reception by a less than helpful individual. Firstly he told me that they had stopped serving food even though it was not 9.30pm - I had just driven 5 hours from Bristol. Then he told me that the local pub would serve food until 10pm. I walked there only to find that this was not true - they stopped at 8.45pm. I returned to the hotel and was about to get very upset with them when an older lady (Margaret?) intervened and offered to make me a sandwich which was very nice. Not the same as a dinner but very nice.
