great value as a place to sleep in downtown

Just for a one night stay as transit before heading to Europe, and wanted to be in downtown to get a feel of Toronto. Location is great with this hotel, cheap compared to what was available. The hotel structure and the room is old but what matters the most all checked the boxes : comfy bed, cleanliness and privacy (there are cheaper options with shared bathroom, I got one with private). The lady that helped me check in did it as her job, without much smile or show any willingness to chat. She didn't even understand at first why I could not enter the building ("you need your room badge !" which of course I didn't have). And, after, when you get in and out of the hotel, you must pass by her counter, and she would act as if you don't exist. Not happy to be here obviously, but not going to complain. In all, it's still a great value and I would come back there if Toronto in on my path again.

Fine crash pad

I just needed a clean place to crash after long workdays and for that it was fine. Good for one person but two would have been cramped. Great location. No frills but clean.

I recommend :)

This is my second time in Rex Hotel. It's affordable, located in a great neighbourhood, personnel is always friendly and helpful. I was not these to listen to music which is located next to the hotel but foe those who like jazz, that's a plus. It's just that it's a bit loud when people enter in their room since it's a small hotel but it's OK if your plan is not to have a deep sleep 😊

Great Location at Affordable Rate & Clean

It was a simple room, but very clean and ideal for the price being located in the core of the city. Great venue, great jazz and great location.

Just a bed for the night.

I needed a cheap room for the night and this one came out on top. I didn't read the full description about it being a shared bathroom but nonetheless it actually provided a bed for the night, which is Iall I desired! I arrived after the biggest Snow Storm in a few years and the building only has single glazed windows. An Electric Heater was provided, but the room was ice cold on arrival.

Short visit due to snow storm - great experience

I booked one night at The Rex to avoid commuting during a snow storm. The property was very close to my office and affordable. Staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The live jazz was a nice treat. The room was small and minimal but clean and comfortable. Would stay again and have recommended to others.

I really enjoyed my short stay. The service was friendly and attentive. The room was simple with older furnishing but clean. New clean sheets and blankets. Good for when you need a room on a budget. The hotel is in a great location with lots of restaurants, shops and easy access to the subway.

Great service in an old building

Although I checked in around 11:30 p.m. and the reception was closed, I was glad there were still employees who took care of me once I rang the bell at the front door. The room was clean and the bed has a good width. However, the pillows are way too hard and they are uncomfortable. Lastly, the soundproofing between units and the streets is disappointing given how old the building is. For instance, if emergency vehicles are blaring their sirens on Queen Street West, you will hear them and will not be able to sleep.

I am an older adult with arthritis in my knees which made it very difficult and painful to go up and down the stairs. My room was on the 2nd floor. I appreciate the staff for helping to take my luggage up and down the stairs. Another issue is that one of the door key did not work which caused some inconvenience for the 2nd guest
