Poor 2.0
Pretty bad experience. Room was freezing and unbearably cold. Thermostat was on full blast but no heat coming out. Asked front desk to investigate, which they did but there was no improvement. Had to sleep with towels on bed for extra warmth. Would never go back. Floor had broken pieces jutting up and was uneven with floor boards sticking up on steps. So dangerous. Really disappointed and could not wait to leave.

Perfect location with quirky charm
I enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, particularly around checking in and out of the hotel. The location is fantastic for walking to the bars, restaurants and shops of the West Village and Chelsea, and with a subway stop right at the corner you'll have no trouble getting around. The rooms are quirky, so if you're worried about space you may want to look for a more traditional option. My superior double was perfect for one person, and I appreciated having the option of watching Turner Classic Movies on the in-room TV (in keeping with the hotel's vintage film decor). Be aware that it is an older hotel with older amenities, so don't expect a fresh modern soaker tub. The shower was old, and looked old, but good enough for a weekend. I was a bit surprised that milk wasn't provided for coffee/tea in the mornings. I was told it was "on rotation only." The homemade sweet bread was amazing, and in a lovely breakfast area. Hotel was quiet, and I could only barely hear the street noise (surprising for New York!). As others have mentioned, the rooms are really warm (even in winter), but not bothersome.

Very good
Very good hotel for the price! Good continental breakfast. The room could be better since it was close to the breakfast area. But, overall, the hotel was a positive surprise.

Friendly staff, good breakfast, comfortable beds (pillows not so much), clean and a nice movie star theme. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location. Staff very nice. Decor is fun. But people should know that there is no elevator and the hotel is 4 stories.

Better than sleeping outside
I will not stay here again. It was old, and kind of run down. There is no elevator so I had to carry my bag up to the 3rd floor. The guy at the counter seemed to be annoyed that I was checking in. The sheets and bathroom were clean, but that's about it.

Go somewhere else
Mattresses are old and very worn out. No hot water and staff didn't seem to care. Free breakfast was a joke. Cheerios or toast?
