Poor Communication but beautiful resort
From the moment of checking in, we were given sales pitches for their star prestige club. We repeated over and over again that we were not interested in joining. Instead we paid extra daily for an upgraded room in a building closer to the beach. Well we made our dinner reservations after we paid that extra fee and we’re told we’d be given a different room all within 1.5 hours of arriving to the hotel. We had to ask multiple times what room we would be in and finally after close to 2 hours we were given our new room number. We inquired about our dinner reservations being made without knowing our room number and we’re told it was fine and they would just look it up by our last name. We never received the “ticket” that we were supposed to get that serves as a receipt for your reservations for dinner. Well we inquired several more times through our stay and we’re told our reservations never existed. On our last night they wouldn’t let us into the restaurant we had reservations at, even though the hostess told me our name was on the list and even let me take a picture of it. Another issue we had was that we decided to pay per day for the access to the member side of the beach. When booking that portion, my credit card was charged for 2 additional fees. Otherwise, this is a gorgeous and kid-friendly resort. This was our 4th visit to this location and by far the worst customer experience we've ever had in all of our vacations. Great stay - 7 nights. Hotel is gorgeous and the jungle is beautiful. The staff were the absolutely nicest Ive ever encountered. Food was fantastic and the entertainment was good. We are planning our next stay at the Quetzal as a result of our great experience.

Iberostar is the worst. We spent a week at Occidental and a week at Iberostar. Occidental is a Ritz next to Disneyland. Iberostar is a Motel 6 by a highway. Iberostar is a dated property with no upkeep. It is sliced in between another hotel and a strange property in the middle of unsafe residential neighborhood. It is far away from everything. There is no room service, the rooms are small, dated and stinky., two cans of junk in the mini-bar. The restaurant food is great if you plan on vomiting daily. Restaurant service is non-existent. Tons of people packed liked sardines on a tiny slice of a beach with a constant fight for a beach chair. Looking for a vacation nightmare? Look no more - Iberostar is here. If you are planning on having an enjoyable vacation at a truly exceptional, well-manicured place with excellent food, terrific service and amazing grounds - go to Occidental. BTW, Occidental is a walking distance from the amazing Xcaret park (a small Disneyland)! Overall, Iberostar is the worst of the dozens of all-inclusives we’ve been to.

This is a great place to stay and getaway from it all. It's a quiet and large property, with a great beach. The staff are amazing and happy. The food is a bit of a let down in the themed restaurants, but the buffet is very good. Avoid the smokehouse restaurant at all costs, as the food is terrible and not smoked on the property as they claim. There is no smoker there, so this is false advertising. The Japanese is also to avoid, as they use the same utensils on the raw chicken, beef and shrimp, as they use cooking the veg and the pre-cooked rice. Apart from that, you will really enjoy your stay here

Beautiful jungle like setting with lots of birds and setting, great sandy beach and easy access to the sea (no rocks), food was really good, good service - our needs were quickly addressed. Property is run down, which shows (sink was clogged, poor water pressure, everything looks shabby), poor entertainment with not many things going on, roof is common areas leaking which was fixed by buckets and rugs, small gym. Expedia promised VIP perk which we didn’t get and nobody at hotel knew about it.
